Throughout the year, grade two will look at books written by Tomie Depaola. Students have enjoyed reading classic stories like Strega Nona and Oliver Button Is A Sissy.
Reading strategies including identifying your favourite part of the story, making predictions, character profiles, sequencing the story and reading pictures, have been taught in guided reading sessions.
In 2A, students read the book Charlie Needs A New Coat. They learned that the words tell a story, however by reading the pictures they can tell other stories. Students found two other stories, one about a sheep and another about a mouse. In groups, using the pictures from the book, they made their own stories called Wooly’s Life and Jerry The Mouse .
