Grade 2 students continue to be creative with finding interesting articles and presenting information to the rest of the class! Read all about the Current Events happening this week from IST Grade 2…
What is a Current Event? Current Event is something that is happening somewhere in the world NOW! Current Events are news stories that include a title, author, and date of publication. Grade 2 students are doing more than just looking up information, they are asking, “What is happening in our world TODAY?”
Each week two students choose an article to present from newspapers, magazines and Internet sites. Students read the article and then use our Current Events Note Taking Form to answer questions like Who, What, When, Where and Why. Students include their opinion about the article and then present their information to the rest of the class.
Said stated, “It’s sad because someone died and its dangerous because there is a flood and people don’t have homes.” Our class found Said’s article interesting. It generated a lot of discussion about the dangers of floods and how people help one another in time of need.
Daniel said, “Scientist thought the bigger the dino, the smaller its arms get but this dino showed them to be wrong. I like dinosaurs and the interesting facts about them.”
Daniel went above and beyond to help his classmates to learn more about the mini T-Rex and this article. He brought in pictures and models of dinosaurs to show the class what the T-Rex may have looked like. He also created fun handouts with pictures and activities for students to take home.
After presenting their information, both Said and Daniel answered questions from the rest of the class regarding the information they presented from their articles. They both did an outstanding job presenting.
