Grade 2 students have been learning about English Grammar. So far this year students have been focusing their attention on sentences and sentence structure, contractions, and parts of speech like nouns and adjectives.
This week students are learning about verbs. Verbs are action words that tell what nouns do. Examples: to fly, to run, to be, jump, lived
To introduce the concept of verbs students watched and listened to Schoolhouse Rock – VERBS!
Students were inspired to sing their own version of VERBS.
Click below to listen to our version.
I get my thing in action (Verb!)
In being, (Verb!) In doing, (Verb!)
A verb expresses action, being, or state of being. A verb makes a statement. Yeah, a verb tells it like it is!
(Verb! That’s what’s happening.)
I can tell you when it’s happening,
(Past, present, future tense)
Ooh! Tell you more about what’s happening,
(Say it so it makes some sense)
I can tell you who is happening!
(Verb, you’re so intense)
Every sentence has a subject.
(Noun, person, place, or thing)
Find that subject: Where’s the action?
(Verb can make a subject sing)
