Learning About Grammar – NOUNS!

Grade 2 students have been learning about English Grammar. So far this year students have been focusing their attention on sentences. Students are learning that a sentence is a complete thought. Sentences have two parts; a subject and a predicate. Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark.

This week students are learning about Nouns. Nouns can be a person, place, thing or an idea. To introduce the concept of nouns students watched and listened to Schoolhouse Rock – NOUNS!

Students were inspired to sing their own version of NOUNS.

Well every person you can know,
And every place that you can go,
And anything that you can show,
You know they’re nouns.

A noun’s a special kind of word,
It’s any name you ever heard,
I find it quite interesting,
A noun’s a person, place, or thing.
