Grade 2 Assembly – The Human Body

28/05/2010

Grade 2P and 2L enjoyed working on their Human Body Assembly. They enjoyed sharing the information they had learnt through songs, poems and skits. The classroom enthusiasm spread to their homes, as you can see by the great costumes. Thank you parents for your continued help and support! The Grade 2 Assembly was a huge success!

Following are letters from Grade 2M and 2N to celebrate the learning that has taken place during our Human Body – Unit of Inquiry.

Dear Ms. Perera’s Class,

We really enjoyed your assembly today. We liked how confident you were and your creative costumes.

We loved your songs, especially the one about the bones. We have also learnt that song, so we could sing along with you. Could you hear us? Your digestion song was very funny. Our favorite part was the end with the potty!

We are also learning about the body, but your assembly taught us some new things Ms. Tima hadn’t taught us.

We appreciate your hard work.

From,
Ms. Tima’s Class

Dear Lively Ladybugs,

We enjoyed watching your Grade 2 Assembly and learning more about the Human Body this morning.

We really liked the awesome song about the Digestive System. We learned that first food goes into your mouth where it mixes with saliva. Then you swallow your food, it goes down your esophagus to your stomach. Food in your stomach breaks down into small pieces as it mixes with acid, bile and other digestive juices. Then food goes to your small intestines where nutrients are absorbed into the blood. The blood then feeds the rest of our body. Eventually, waste ends up in the large intestine and then the potty!

It was interesting to learn that when we swallow air and other gases (like in soda), our stomach needs to release the gases by burping!

We also enjoyed the song about the bones! We especially liked the way you sang, “The foot bone is connected to the ankle bone. The ankle bone is connected to the Fibia and Tibia bones…”

We loved watching your assembly. Thank you again for presenting your Human Body information.

Yours Truly,

IST Grade 2 Kung Fu Praying Mantids

Tanzania National Anthem

20/02/2010

At the beginning of every IST Elementary Campus assembly students, parents and staff all stand and sing the Tanzania National Anthem.

It is important for many of us at IST to remember that we are guests in Tanzania. The learning community at IST respects the many languages and cultures of the people of Tanzania.

We are proud to sing the Tanzania National Anthem along side our Tanzanian friends.

IST International Day Assembly
International Day Assembly 2009 at IST

Dear Parents,

We, the Grade 2 students, want to say thank you for all of the hard work that you did to put on the awesome International Day at IST. We had a lot of fun visiting all of the stalls from around the world. We enjoyed all of the fun games, yummy food and interesting art activities. We had a nice time.

tanzaniaWe learned a lot today though all of the interactive activities from all over the world that you set up for us. We learned that there are many different kinds of food, drink, games, art and activities from many different cultures. It made us happy when you gave us paper origami cranes from Japan. We enjoyed learning about American football. We also liked learning about the good luck stickers from Egypt. We discovered that South Africa has a lot of mines for precious metals and gems. It was fun for us to dig in the sand and find our own gems today. chinaEveryone was so happy to have their name written out in Chinese characters! Some of us got henna designs on our hands from India. We also discovered that Zanzibar has many different spices that come from plants and some of us got a beautiful hand made basket. We all enjoyed the stories you told us but most of all we appreciate the time you took to answer our many questions about your country.

We learned a lot today about the world and we had a lot of fun too. Thank you again for helping us to learn about the world.

Yours truly,
The IST Grade 2 Students

Dear Dr. Margaret R. MacDonald,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful stories with us here at IST. We really liked when you read your books Go To Sleep Gecko!, Slop! and Fat Cat to us in the library and at the assembly with the Grade 3 students.

We really enjoyed you and your books. Your books have lots of beautiful detailed pictures. Your stories are also fun to read. When you read to us you made your stories fun by involving the audience with sounds and activities. We especially liked the rhythm in the book Go To Sleep Gecko! We see that you are now tired and you need to go to sleep. Thank you again for flying here to be with us at IST.

Dear Dr. MacDonald,

Thank you for visiting our school and sharing your fantastic stories. We loved getting to meet an author! We really liked the motions and fun voices that you used as you read the stories. You have a very good imagination; we felt like we were a part of each story.

It was neat to hear about where the stories came from. We have been to some of those countries! We wish you could spend more time with us, but we look forward to going home and telling our sisters and brothers about the stories!

It is obvious that you practiced a lot. Everyone knew their lines so well! You told the whole school a lot of interesting facts about minibeasts. The Kung Fu Praying Mantids and the Buzzing Bees had great teamwork to put on a fabulous show!
